Unicorn Horn Party Hats

After seeing a few images on Pinterest, I knew that I had to add this cute project to my children’s tea party. All the kids will be invited and we’ll have a blast while wearing these colorful hats!

Step 1: How to draw and print the patterns for the unicorn horn

There are many unicorns horn patterns available online and also some tutorials on how to draw your own unicorn’s horn. However, I just chose to print one of the patterns that I liked the most.

Step 2: How to prepare party hats for unicorn horns

After cutting out small holes in the middle top of the party hat, place the pattern under it and cut around it using a sharp scissor.

Step 3: How to make unicorn horns

Using a hot glue gun, apply small amounts of glue onto the party hat (on the side that will be facing up) and place it around your child’s head. Make sure you adjust the bottom part of the hat so that it fits well with their neck. It should look like this:

Step 4: How to make the colorful manes for the unicorn horns

You can use any colors of your choice, but here is an example using pink, yellow, and blue. Using a crochet hook (size 3mm) and double knitting yarn (DK weight), pull through 10 loops on your crochet hook. Then pull through another loop on your hook (11 loops on your hook).

You have now made one “chain” stitch.

Make as many chain stitches as you would like for the mane of your unicorn horn. I did 15 chains for mine.

Next, now that you have made the desired number of chains, slip stitch backward (so instead of crocheting over the top of your yarn like before, you are crocheting under it) into the first chain stitch. While pulling the last loop through, make sure to pull it out a little bit so that there is enough room for you to insert your crochet hook.

Now that you have made a slip stitch into the first chain, you will start crocheting in the round using the front loops (the ones that are facing towards you and not tucked behind the back loop).

First, insert your crochet hook under both top loops of the middlemost stitch from the left side, yarn over, pull through the stitch.

Now, insert your crochet hook under both top loops of the second-middlemost stitch from the left side, yarn over, pull through the stitch. Continue this pattern all the way to the last stitches.

We will now be increasing our row count by crocheting two stitches into each stitch. So, insert your crochet hook under both top loops of the middlemost stitch from the left side, yarn over, pull through the stitch.

Now, insert your crochet hook under both top loops of the second-middlemost stitch from the left side, yarn over, pull through the stitch. Continue this pattern all the way to the last stitches.

Now, yarn over once again and pull through all three loops on your hook (this is called a slip stitch). You have now increased by one row. Repeat this pattern until you almost reach the tip of your unicorn horn.

Next, cut off all the extra yarn that you don’t need anymore and have a little fun with your party hat and horn!
